Surrounded by the natural beauty of İznik, Darka Social Facilities has long served as an important social hub for the local community. However, the swimming pool built in the 1980s began to show signs of aging due to technical shortcomings and aesthetic deterioration. Peeling surface materials and insufficient waterproofing began to pose risks to both comfort and safety. This comprehensive renovation was realized by the H2O Pool Systems team, under the supervision of Civil Engineer and Project Manager Anıl Yaman, using Serapool porcelain tiles.
From Structural Problems to Modern Solutions
The goal of the project was to preserve the original dimensions of the pool while transforming it into a safe, aesthetically refined, and technically advanced facility that meets today’s standards. Serapool products were selected to fulfill both visual and performance expectations.
During the renovation process:
The old coatings and waterproofing layers were completely removed down to the concrete base.
Necessary repairs were made to the concrete surface, followed by the application of new waterproofing layers.
Once a smooth and stable surface was achieved, the porcelain tiles were installed with precision.
Thanks to these steps, all waterproofing issues were eliminated and a durable infrastructure was created, ensuring long-term resistance and integrity.
A New Identity with Porcelain Tiles
The pool originally featured classic 12.5x25 cm blue ceramic tiles. For the renovation, Snow White porcelain tiles were chosen. Their light-toned surface enhanced the turquoise appearance of the water, creating a refreshing and modern ambiance.
Although 12.5x25 cm classic blue ceramic tiles used in the 1980s are still required in competition pools today, they no longer meet the aesthetic expectations of private projects. Natural stones have technical disadvantages in pool applications. In this case, porcelain tiles stood out as the ideal solution in terms of both durability and design.
A Perfect System with Complementary Details
The renovation included not only the pool interior but also surrounding elements. Thanks to Serapool’s:
a modern terrace area was created that is both functional and visually harmonious.
In addition, an overflow system was applied. In this system, outer trim pieces were precisely positioned at the overflow level to direct the water into the channel. Despite the challenging implementation process, the process was made easier by the workability of Serapool products.

The turquoise water effect achieved with Snow White porcelain tiles created an atmosphere in harmony with Darka’s natural environment. Beyond its modern appearance, the pool now offers a safe and enjoyable experience to visitors, thanks to its durable infrastructure and complementary solutions.
The swimming pool renovation at İznik’s Darka Social Facilities became an exemplary transformation project both aesthetically and technically thanks to Serapool porcelain tiles and complementary components.
