How to Lay Pool Tiles?
After the width and length measurements are made for the pool to be tiled, tiles and tile materials are supplied in equivalent sizes. It is recommended to choose tiles that will prevent leaks and be suitable for long-term use. More care should be taken especially at the edges of the areas where the pool is filled with water and water is drained from the pool. Insulation mortar is applied to the entire pool. The tiles are adhered with the help of adhesive applied to the edges and inside of the pool. The process is applied to the entire pool so that the spacing of the tiles is 3 mm. After 24 hours of waiting, joint work is carried out and all tiles are expected to dry for 48 hours. After making sure that it is completely dry, the pool is ready for use.
When laying pool tiles, water leaks may occur if the tiles are not adjusted according to the appropriate dimensions in important areas such as the edges of the water channels. Laying the tiles without leaving a 3 mm gap between them for the joint process causes the bonding process not to be strong enough. For this reason, in the long term, the tiles may come out of their places due to factors such as pressure, air temperature, and water chemicals. It is also wrong behavior to fill the pool with water before it is completely dry after the work is applied in the pool.
Pool tiles are divided into types according to the materials used, non-slip properties, colors, and models. Types of pool tiles, including porcelain tile and porcelain mosaic, are given below:
Porcelain tiles, tiles are available in many colors and patterns from 5 × 5 cm to 33 × 66 cm. It has a very wide range of models. It prevents the formation of bacteria. It is resistant to different thermal conditions. It has a stain-resistant surface. It shows resistance to chemicals in pool water.
Porcelain mosaic, tiles are available in many colors and patterns from 2.5 × 2.5 cm to 5 × 10 cm. It is also used in spa tile flooring. It has a non-slip feature. The most preferred pool covering materials are porcelain mosaics. Structurally, it is more affordable as it is subjected to a smaller amount of joint treatment. It provides high durability.
WHAT ARE THE STEPS IN LAYING POOL CERAMICS?
There are certain rules and steps when laying pool ceramics. It is important to apply the steps to ensure their suitability for use, taking into account the demands of the people who want to have a pool. Pool ceramic flooring consists of three stages. The stages are as given below:
SURFACE PREPARATION STAGE
The entire pool surface must be cleaned of dust and dirt. If there is a pool ceramic renewal process, the inside of the pool should be allowed to dry after the pool water is drained. Then, if any, water leaks and worn areas should be repaired. Plugging mortar is applied to the areas with joint and plaster.
Insulation mortar is mixed with water in powder form. After obtaining the required mortar consistency, it is applied to the pool coating area in 2 separate coats. After the first layer dries, the second layer is applied. Insulation mortar should be 2 mm thick.
APPLICATION OF TILE
The selected tile models are supplied to be compatible with the pool structure. The tiles are glued into the pool with the help of adhesive with 3 mm gaps. Grout is applied to the empty parts. There are waiting and drying times for each process.
WHAT SHOULD BE DONE AFTER CERAMIC APPLICATION?
After ceramic application, the pool becomes ready for use within 72 hours in total. During this time, contact with the pool with water is not recommended. For the ceramics to fully adhere to each other and the floor, the waiting time under suitable weather conditions is determined as 24 hours and the waiting time for the joint process is 48 hours. However, at higher and lower temperatures, the time may be longer or shorter. First, the pool is filled with water for testing purposes. If there is a situation such as water leaks or ground unevenness, the relevant company is notified.
WHAT SHOULD BE DONE TO USE POOL CERAMICS FOR A LONG TIME?
There are pool types that are diversified as business pools, pools used for competition, and private pools. Some of these pools are salty, some are fresh, some are in use for 4 seasons and some are in use only in summer and spring. For this reason, it is important to determine the purpose for which the pool is designed. Pool ceramics should be selected for the purpose they serve in line with the conditions and features mentioned. Thus, it is suitable for longer-term use. Pool ceramics can be affected by chemicals such as chlorine, disinfectant substances, and alkalinity ratio in pool water. Choosing ceramics according to pool chemicals, thermal conditions and frequency of use greatly helps long-term use.
