Architect’s View on Serapool: Aesthetic Harmony with Meriç Bulca

Architect Meriç Bulca, known for her focus on boutique projects, adopts a design philosophy that values both aesthetic integrity and practical application. Since her first encounter with Serapool, she has frequently incorporated solutions like Artsera and Antique Grey into her work—products that satisfy both technical requirements and visual coherence. In this interview, you will explore the impact of material selection on architectural decisions and the aesthetic value Serapool brings to pool projects through the lens of an experienced architect.

Boutique Architectural Approaches and Application-Based Design Experience

Meriç Bulca stands out not only for her involvement in the design phase but also for her direct participation in on-site implementation. This versatile approach places greater emphasis on functionality and longevity in material selection. Especially in boutique projects, the harmony of materials with their surroundings and the contribution of detailing become key to architectural integrity.

Could you tell us a bit about yourself and your projects?
I’m an architect, but I mainly focus on the implementation side of the projects—I also work as a contractor. Recently, we’ve been active mostly in the Mamurbaba area of Çeşme. We are also involved in restoration-style projects in places like the Çeşme Construction Houses and Alaçatı. Our work mostly revolves around boutique developments.

Antique Grey: Color Harmony in Landscaping and the Aesthetic of Water

Antique Grey offers a neutral base that easily blends with surrounding elements while subtly reflecting the hues created by water refraction. Particularly in projects that integrate landscaping, this tone elevates the architectural design by combining natural aesthetics with a modern approach.

Is there a specific reason why you frequently use Antique Grey in your projects?
Grey is a shade that harmonizes beautifully with the colors we use in contemporary landscaping. Additionally, when paired with our landscape designs, it creates a stunning visual effect in the water. That’s what completes the overall look. I’ve used Antique Grey in six of my projects, and we’re extremely satisfied with the results.

Artsera: A Design Product That Stands Out When Used Right

Bulca places special emphasis on her first encounter with Serapool and her lasting connection with the Artsera series. She notes that Artsera reaches its full potential only when integrated into the right architectural concept and environmental context.

How did your journey with Serapool begin? You first used Artsera, right?
Yes, it was in 2019. When we first received your catalog, we saw Artsera. We contacted your team at the time, but we were told that it wasn’t being produced that year. We insisted, mentioning that the project offered a great opportunity, and fortunately, they agreed. They provided us with one of the Artsera designs, which we used in a competition-entry project. It turned out beautifully—it was truly a rewarding experience. To fully showcase Artsera, the surrounding elements must be well coordinated. We’re currently planning to use Artsera again in a new project by the seaside.

Technical Solutions and On-Site Flexibility with Serapool

Serapool not only delivers aesthetically but also provides practical, technical solutions that support applicators on site. Features like double-beveled tiles help overcome challenges in complex installations, enabling a smoother application process. This design flexibility allows architects to implement creative decisions freely.

How do you evaluate Serapool products in terms of their contribution to architectural aesthetics?
In recent years, I’ve exclusively used Serapool for my swimming pool projects. As you can see here, the availability of alternative solutions, such as double-beveled tile production, or their ability to accommodate custom shapes, client demands, or our drawings within the pool space, makes things much easier for us. Additionally, the colors of the products align beautifully with our projects, which is why we are very pleased to work with Serapool. It adds beauty to what we create.

Loyalty in Design: A Lasting Bond with Artsera

One of the standout aspects of the Serapool brand is its commitment to creating original series that promote design-focused loyalty. That Artsera is still the first product that comes to Bulca’s mind when thinking of Serapool is a testament to this enduring connection and product legacy.

What do you appreciate most about Serapool’s vision?
Definitely Artsera. When we first started working with Serapool, it was Artsera—and it still is. It remains our favorite Serapool product overall.
