Surrounded by the natural beauty of İznik, Darka Social Facilities has been an important meeting point in the social life of the local community for many years. However, the pool built in the 1980s gradually became inadequate technically and failed to meet aesthetic expectations. This renovation process was carried out with Serapool Porcelain products under the management of Civil Engineer and Project Manager Anıl Yaman and the H2O Pool Systems team.
Reasons for Renovation: Safety and Durability
Over time, the deterioration of old ceramics and waterproofing failures caused both aesthetic losses and safety risks for users. The first step of the project was the removal of all old coverings and insulation layers down to the concrete. Surface repairs were then completed, and modern waterproofing systems were applied.
“The coverings from the 1980s were no longer sufficient in terms of technology or safety. Waterproofing problems created long-term operational risks for the pool. Our goal was to give the pool a modern appearance without changing its dimensions.”
Snow White Porcelain Tiles were chosen. Thanks to their light-colored surface, the turquoise appearance of the water was highlighted, giving the pool a much more modern atmosphere.
While 12.5x25 cm classic blue ceramic tiles, used in the past, are still mandatory in competition pools today, they are no longer preferred aesthetically in private projects. Natural stone, on the other hand, can create long-term technical disadvantages in pool applications. At this point, porcelain tiles proved to be the most suitable solution.

Aesthetics and Harmony: Cohesion in Details
In the rectangular main pool, 33x66 cm porcelain tiles were used, while in the semi-circular children’s pool, a 5x5 cm solution with the same surface was applied, ensuring a cohesive look throughout the area.
In the surrounding areas, flat copings, drainage channels, and Outer Trim pieces were also used to create a safe and aesthetic terrace area.
“Serapool’s complementary pieces made our work much easier in terms of both safety and functionality. Especially in the overflow system application, the workability of the Outer Trim provided a great advantage during the challenging production process.”
Safety and Comfort: Overflow System
The project included the installation of an overflow system. In this system, water flows over the Outer Trim into drainage channels, providing both a hygienic and continuously refreshed swimming experience. For users, this was not only a visual enhancement but also an important health benefit.
Thanks to porcelain tiles and complementary solutions, the İznik Darka Social Facilities pool has gained a technically safe and aesthetically modern appearance.
