What is Curbstone?

What is Curbstone?

Curbstone is a type of building element used to separate sidewalks and refuges from roads and to direct rainwater from the road to the storm water channel. Curbstone, which is usually produced with concrete material, acts as a barrier separating pedestrian roads from vehicle roads to ensure the safety of people. Curbstones used for landscaping in gardens and parks are used both in and around the pool with their patterned, colored and shaped surfaces.

Curbstone is produced in 2 different ways: Curbstones produced in pairs, one of which is concrete and the other is a stepped body, and all concrete curbstones produced in one piece. Curbstone models, which vary functionally according to the area of use, have a minimum thickness of 4 mm. Curbstones, also known as edging stones, offer the opportunity to use in different sizes and shapes.

CURBSTONE HISTORY

Curbstone has been used primarily to surround squares and personal properties since the days when countries and the cities in which they are located began to be built. The curb stones, which are dominated by the pure color of concrete, gray color, have gained diversity by taking on various colors, models and forms over time. Today, curb stones, which are encountered in almost every street and neighborhood, are designed in accordance with the pavement color, road color, landscape structure and city planning.

WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF CURBSTONE?

Characteristics of the curbstone:

  • Curbstones with a maximum suction power of 5% are durable for long periods of time.
  • The dimensions of the curbstone positively affect the usability of the area as they can be adjusted to the desired size.
  • It has aesthetic and decorative designs in appearance.
  • Thanks to its strength and compressed (pressed) form, it is protected against abrasion due to various chemical substances.

WHAT MATERIALS ARE CURB STONES MADE OF?

The main material used in curbstones is concrete. The use of concrete aims to ensure the durability, robustness and longevity of the curbstone. Durability also depends on the thickness of the curbstone made of concrete. Produced not less than 4 mm, curbstones have a wide range of models and size alternatives.

WHERE IS CURBSTONE USED?

Usage areas of curbstone:

  • Roadside
  • Curbsides,
  • Park and garden surroundings,
  • Beach and walkway lanes,
  • Site and school neighborhoods,
  • Pool sides,
  • Around water channels on roads, etc.

HOW TO PLACE BORDUR STONE?

After the necessary feasibility studies are carried out in the area where the curbstone will be laid, a mortar base is created. The ground is transformed into a flat and even surface and curbstones are laid in an aligned manner before or after the concrete is poured, depending on preference. Curbstones are laid at 1 cm - 1.5 cm intervals. The concrete poured twice as much as the curbstone should be covered with construction work signs and should not be interfered with until it dries. The front and back of the curbstone should be supported with concrete for durability.

WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF CURB STONES?

Curbstone types:

  • Ramp Border
  • Oval Tree Border,
  • Refuge Border
  • Boltless Border
  • Standard Concrete Kerb,
  • Garden Border
  • Sandblasted Road Border,
  • Gutter Border
  • Steel Molded Water Garden Border,
  • Filmed L Separation Top Curve Border,

WHICH BORDERS ARE USED IN POOLS?

It is a very important criterion for the borders used in pools to be durable and not to be exposed to abrasion against chemical substances. Produced from glass mosaic pool borders should not be affected by the changing pool temperature. In pools, models with blue patterns on white, tile patterned models and models such as starfish, dolphin, anchor are the most commonly used border types. The sizes of the borders used in pools are generally preferred in 2.5 x 2.5 width and length, 13-18-26 heights.

Serapool Porcelain kerbstones are specially manufactured to be protected against temperature, chemicals and impacts. Serapool Porcelain Pool Borders offer various alternatives in different models and patterns.

WHAT TO CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING A POOL BORDER?

Things to consider when choosing a pool border:

  • Curb sizes should be determined according to the shape of the pool,
  • Curbs should have surfaces that are easy to clean and should not accumulate dirt,
  • Curbs must be resistant to heat,
  • Curbs must be resistant to chemicals in the pool water,
  • Curbs should have a strong structure against possible impacts,
  • In order to preserve the integrity and visuality of the pool, identical or similar patterns should be preferred for borders.

HOW TO INSTALL A POOL BORDER?

During the pool construction, the curb laying process should be decided and the required number of curb stones should be determined and supplied. Durable borders of brands prepared with quality materials and fine workmanship are started to be laid when the pool walls are completely equalized and leveled. The smoothness of the walls makes the borders look smoother and more aesthetic. The borders, which are fixed to the pool wall with the help of concrete mortar, are usually laid at 1.5 cm intervals to cover the entire pool wall as a strip.

WHAT SHOULD BE DONE TO USE CURBSTONES FOR A LONG TIME?

In order to use curbstones for a long time, there are elements that should be considered during the laying phase. If the concrete mortar is too liquid or too solid, it prevents the curbstones from holding each other and preventing their durability. A medium liquid concrete mortar should be laid both between the kerbstones and in front of and behind them;

The pool should not be filled with water without waiting for the curbs laid in the pool to dry. In this way, curb concretes become more durable and ready for long-term use. Curb stones should not be placed side by side very tightly. A gap of at least 1 cm must be left between them. In this way, damage to one curbstone will not affect the other curbstone and it will be easier to repair.
