Pool Winter Maintenance

Pool Winter Maintenance

Some maintenance is carried out to prepare outdoor and indoor swimming pools that are not used in winter for winter. Waiting times in pools vary according to climatic conditions and temperature. It is recommended to perform pool winter maintenance in order to ensure that installations such as electricity, water, and pool coatings can be used smoothly in other seasons without the need for renovation. Winter maintenance in pools directly affects the service life of pools. In pools without winter maintenance, cracks and fractures may occur in the coatings due to low temperatures (-30). While this situation causes water leaks, it also causes a high repair cost.

HOW TO DO WINTER MAINTENANCE IN POOLS?

Yüzme havuzlarında kışlık bakım adımları:

  • The pool water level should be reduced by 15 cm for skimmer pools and 30 cm for overflow pools.
  • The pH value of the pool water should be fixed at 7.0.
  • Pool winter maintenance chemicals should be added in the required amounts according to the volume of the pool water.
  • Water circulation should be done for at least 6 hours.
  • It is necessary to repeat the procedures every 15 days during the winter season.
  • After the application, all inlet-outlet valves and the pool pump should be closed.
  • The remaining water in the engine compartment and filter system should be drained.
  • Floating ice should be added to the edge sections of the pool.

HOW TO DO WINTER MAINTENANCE IN OUTDOOR POOLS?

Winter maintenance in outdoor pools is not a tedious process. The necessary maintenance chemicals should be supplied and added to the pool water, the remaining water in the pool equipment should be drained and the process mentioned after the circulation step should be repeated at intervals of 15 days - 30 days. Preparing outdoor pools for very hot and very cold weather conditions affects the duration of use of the pools. The better the pool is taken care of during seasonal changes, the longer it can be used and the more comfortable it can be used.

ARE OUTDOOR POOLS DRAINED IN WINTER?

Outdoor pools should not be drained in winter. Coatings crack and break at low temperatures when there is no water in the pool reservoir. Joint applications, heat, and water installations are damaged unless there is no water. The water in the pool is properly maintained by adding certain chemicals. Pool water is not drained during the winter season so that outdoor pools can be used in a well-maintained and healthy way in the following seasons.

HOW TO MAINTAIN AN INDOOR POOL FOR WINTER?

Winter maintenance in indoor swimming pools is similar to the maintenance process in outdoor swimming pools. A certain amount of water is drained according to the water volume of the indoor swimming pool. The pH level of the water is balanced at 7.0. Then the necessary winter maintenance chemicals are added to the pool water. Pool water circulation is run for at least 6 hours. While doing all these operations, indoor pools should be very well-ventilated. During the winter season, the mentioned application should be repeated at intervals of 15 or 30 days. Apart from this application, unlike outdoor pools, pool water should be completely drained and cleaned at least 2 times during the winter season and the same procedures should be done again. In addition, the cleaning of equipment such as pool pumps and pool valves should be repeated every time the pool water is drained and cleaned.

WHAT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED WHEN DOING WINTER MAINTENANCE IN POOLS?

Things to consider when doing winter maintenance in pools:

  • Care should be taken not to skip the renewal periods of winter maintenance chemicals and to perform maintenance at the recommended times.
  • If there is water in all equipment and installations in the pool, it must be completely drained. Otherwise, pool mechanisms may be damaged in frost events.
  • After all winter maintenance operations are completed, the addition of floating ice should not be neglected.
  • These ice molds act as a barrier and prevent the pool from deforming at very low temperatures.
  • It is not correct to add more or less than the recommended amount of winter maintenance chemicals.
  • They should be added in appropriate amounts according to the volume of water.

WHY IS WINTER MAINTENANCE IMPORTANT IN POOLS?

Winter maintenance allows us to prepare the pools for the next season in a way that does not create maintenance and repair costs. Coating materials such as glass mosaic, ceramic, and tiles are produced according to a certain cold and temperature. For this reason, it is necessary to protect the materials and the pool. In addition, winter maintenance protects the pools from algae and bacteria formation during the winter season. It provides a cleaner and hygienic use.

WHAT HAPPENS IF POOLS ARE NOT WINTERIZED?

Without winter maintenance, pools may experience various malfunctions and problems in the coming seasons. Cold weather conditions, which pose problems for both the installation and pool floors, may require very costly renovations. Pool floors experience structural deterioration both at low temperatures and at very high temperatures. Pool coverings, which can be subjected to deformations such as breaking and cracking, may cause not only the change of the deteriorated areas but also the change of the entire floor or wall coverings. In addition, the joint filling sections are also damaged, causing water leaks. Pools that are not maintained for the winter can create a new renovation expense every season and spoil your pool enjoyment. The service life of the pools also decreases after each renovation process.

DOES POOL WATER FREEZE IN WINTER?

When winter maintenance chemicals and floating ice molds, which are a barrier, are not used, pool water freezes in climatic conditions that drop to minus temperatures. Freezing of the pool water causes serious damage to the pool coverings, rendering them unusable. In addition, water and heat systems are also greatly affected. In order to ensure that the pool water does not freeze even at very low temperatures, it is necessary to carry out winter maintenance correctly and on time.

WHAT IS A WINTER CARE CHEMICAL?

The pool material consisting of suitable substances to protect swimming pools at temperatures below seasonal norms is called winter maintenance chemicals. Winter maintenance chemicals in concentrated form provide healthy protection of pools at low temperatures.

WHAT ARE THE PROPERTIES OF WINTER CARE CHEMICALS?

Properties of winter care chemistry:

  • It prevents algae, bacteria, and lime formation in pools.
  • It protects pool equipment (such as filters) and installation (water, heat).
  • There are no phosphates in winter maintenance chemicals.
  • They are available in many sizes. A sufficient amount of winter maintenance chemicals can be preferred according to the size of the pool.
  • Winter maintenance chemicals are available in both tablet and liquid form.

WHAT IS A WINTER CARE CHEMICAL GOOD FOR?

The winter maintenance chemical ensures that the pools are protected from frost and very low temperatures without losing their form. The pH value of the pool water is adjusted, the required amount of pool chemicals are added, the installations, filter, pool pump, and valves are drained and cleaned so that no water remains, and the pool is prepared for winter by adding floating ice molds. Pool chemicals prevent the deformation of pool coatings, which are used in pools and have a sensitive structure. In pools that are not prepared for the winter season with pool chemicals, problems that may require various renovations may occur.

HOW TO USE WINTER CARE CHEMICALS?

The amount of winter care chemicals to be used depends on the volume of the pool water. For 100 m³ pool water, 15-20 liters of winter maintenance chemicals should be added together with 2-3 kg chlorine granules. Winter care chemicals in tablet form should be added as 4 capsules per 100 m³ pool water. Capsules should be renewed throughout the season. Using winter maintenance chemicals less than the volume of pool water cannot protect the pool at low temperatures. Similarly, too many winter maintenance chemicals will damage the pool instead of protecting it. For this reason, an appropriate amount should be added according to the amount of pool water.
